Paul Hawkin’s Hawk-Eye given thumbs down
He’s not the first to be on the receiving end of an unpopular decision in football, but Hawkins received a crushing blow last month when the International FA Board (IFAB) out an end to his hopes of introducing Hawk-Eye Technology into the Premiership.
Already used in tennis and cricket to determine whether a ball is out or would have hit the stumps, Hawkins’ famous technology had been undergoing trials with the Premier League to settle disputes as to whether or not the ball crossed the goal line. However, the backing of the English Football Association and Premier League was not enough to get the IFAB on board, and it has now been ruled that further trials will be suspended in place of two extra referees on the pitch.
