I was at a wedding about 3 months ago and at the reception on every table was a disposable camera. After loads of ale all the blokes were getting carried away taking pictures with this disposable camera, until the 40 shots were taken without any film as it had ran out and we kept winding it anyway unaware, damaging the camera.
When the snaps come back, they were all distorted because we had stratched the film, a real shame as it was such a good and memorable night. I then began racking the old brain on how i could improve this…
Firstly i thought about setting up a photoshare website that all the guests that took digital cameras could upload their photos and other guests could view/download them. But there are loads of these such http://www.weddingphotoshare.com/
I then hit upon the idea of renting digital cameas out, although worried about drunkness and theft and while researching this on the internet i came across this company based in the States - YouShoot.com
Started by two young entrepreneurs in 2003 in Cambridge, MA, YouShoot is the first national company to rent digital cameras for events. Specializing in weddings and corporate events, YouShoot offers packages of high-resolution digital cameras at a low cost and a high convenience.
First, YouShoot customers reserve digital cameras for their event date at YouShoot.com. Before the event, they receive a case containing the cameras by mail. During the event, guests take pictures with easy-to-master digital cameras. Afterwards, customers simply return the cameras in a prepaid mailing case and YouShoot posts the pictures online for guests to view, share, download, and print. YouShoot provides cards that explain how to access the pictures to be distributed to guests at the event.
Would it work in the UK? I did some research by placing a post on Confetti.co.uk to potetial brides and the feddback was 87% would rent, although price, insurance and colour came up as the most challenging issues!
Let me know if launch a UK YouShoot!
