Give It Up
What a fantastic idea, please check out GiveItUp - Born out of a simple, drunken idea: ‘What if all the money we spent on a night went to charity?’ Give It Up lays on a night to remember, gets everyone to contribute for free, and then gives the money to different causes.
This event is on the 7th July at: Village Underground, 54 Hollywell Lane, Shoreditch, London EC2A 3PQ Tickets are £13, and are available online.
This year all proceeds will go to rYico - Founded in 2003, rYico was set up for the one million young Rwandans who became orphaned as a result of the 1994 genocide. rYico works to support and empower vulnerable young people in Rwanda through Centre Marembo, a youth resource centre based in Kigali, providing them with support, a safe environment and information about their basic rights. The centre also offers drop-in facilities for dozens of orphans and vulnerable children each week for them to wash their clothes, eat a hot meal, get information on urgent health issues such as HIV/AIDS, and gain compassion from staff, volunteers and peers. It currently accommodates 30 children – all now enrolled in formal education – and about 400 young people attend the centre each week.
I was only talking to a 13 year old girl at a Christian Centre in Birmingham last week and she mentioned she was planning to launch a website where people can give up something each month for charity e.g. a curry or a night out etc. I must give her this website as it is an excellent idea.
